What We Do

We operate through our volunteer Board. Board members recruit, identify and assist qualified applicants for the program. They work with the families on credit and mortgage approval. Once approved, these future homeowners participate in the construction of their home, with the help of many willing volunteers who bring a variety of skills to the construction site.  Generous local, state and national donors often participate in new projects providing assistance on site, and through financial contributions and materials.

How We Do It

Habitat home ownership is not FREE. Every Habitat home is an investment in the future. The current average cost for a Habitat home is $90,000Habitat homes are sold to partner families for no profit and are financed with an affordable mortgage. The cost of the homes may vary depending on the number of bedrooms and construction phase.

Our Commitment

TRI RIVER HABITAT is committed to providing deserving families a “hand-up”, not a “hand-out”. Approved families must commit to the construction of their home and 250 (Or is it 400) hours of “sweat equity”, and pay their mortgage just like other Halifax County homeowners.
